Wait. American Idol was on last night? What?

Well, that was... interesting. Note my use of a neutral, vague adjective. Interesting.

Of course, interesting can go both ways, can it not? But, what?! Could they not get the rights to some actual DECENT musicals?! A little Grease, perhaps? I could so see Carrie singing "Look at me, I'm Sandra Dee, lousy Miss Virginity!" Or how about some Phantom or Jesus Christ Superstar? Gosh, even Hair has better music than what we heard last night. Hello? "Age of Aquarius" anyone? HELLO?!

Nikko surprised me (as did his vocally powerful, extraordinarily over-the-top backup singer, for Pete's sake!), and Carrie kicked some serious ass, as usual. Vonzell is no Babs (which is not necessarily a BAD thing), and Bo SO picked the wrong song from Pippin! Anwar, though vocally precise, ruined one of the best songs from Camelot, and Anthony, Simon be damned, was dang cute singing the pop version of "Climb Every Mountain." Get that boy his own boy band, I say! Scott needs to go bye-bye. Is it possible the scandal has broken his spirit? 'Cuz BORING. Nadia lost me. Was she good? I wasn't paying attention.

Oh! and hey. Was it just me, or was Constantine making sweet, sweet love to the microphone and totally screwing the camera with his eyes? His hypnotically sexy eyes... How weird was THAT? Huh. Maybe his contacts were bothering him? What?! Why are you looking at me like that?!

youre right Cat, the songs absolutely sucked. I was thinking the same thing as far as musicals,,,,, OMG, I started thinking that someone would bust out with "Oklahoma" or something the way it was going. So many good musicals. I was hoping Bo would have sang "Hair", the song he picked was awful. And I gotta give it to you, Constantine was .... the best.... aghhh, I said it, now I gotta go hurl.

Anonymous TGIM: How DARE you? Cut his HAIR?! (said in Marcia Brady voice)

There, there, dashababy, that wasn't so difficult, was it? Dashababy? Dashababy?
::sounds of wretching::
Oh, dear.

OK, for once, dashababy and I are coming out of the Constantine closet. He kind of rocked last night, and I thought he sang better than before. To answer your question, Nadia did not do so well last night. I think she's partied too much in her short 21 years - her voice sounds tired all the time.
And yes, where was the "You're Gonna Love Me" from Dreamgirls? If Jennifer Hudson were there last night, she would have known what to do with a musical theatre song. Why did everyone pick the slowest, most boring songs from musical theatre ever?
PS - did you see Simon and his new band, Il Divo, on Oprah Monday? Give me a break. Simon has a hard on for opera people. In my humble opinion, it's just as hard to sing pop well as it is to sing opera well. It's just a different kind of training, and it's just that not as many people take up with classical singing nowadays.

First off, TGYM, if Bo cut his hair, he wouldn't be able to waggle it. The soul patch? That can go.

When I heard the theme, I was so hoping that Constantine would be a smart ass and do "I Feel Pretty" from West Side Story, or even "Wash that Man Right Out of My Hair" from South Pacific. That's just me, though.

Oh, mrtl. Your wit, it astounds and humbles me. 'Cuz Bo singing, "I'm gonna wash that man right out of my hair!" while sporting a silk-screened t-shirt with Constantine's smarmy yet dead sexy mug on it? Priceless.

Arthur Fonzerelli,

Would you be referring to my sweet Constantine and his lovemaking eyes? Or are we talking Blinky? Oh, it has to be my Greek God Idol, no? Uh-oh, the Fonz better start running, eh, Kristine?! Run away! RUN AWAY!

So, Kristine, does this mean you're rethinking the custody battle?

You too mom? UGH!

My mom just likes Constantine because he has hair. She was married to a bald man for 30 something years.

I'm with you about the musical choices. Where was "I Don't Know How To Love Him" from Jesus Christ Superstar? Or "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Mis?

I have to be honest - I'm not "feelin'" (to quote Randy) any of them this year....

There ARE actually some freaking awesome musicals out there. Why, AI? WHY?!

Let me stew over it a bit, mm-kay?
